2:30-2:50- Irth Presents Birthing While Black Q&A-- Get advocacy tips & resources on having an empowered birth experience. Irth doula ambassadors will speak for about 10 minutes, answer questions for 10 minutes and distribute free copies of the Irth's Guide to Birthing While Black.
3:00-3:20- Irth Presents Breastfeeding & Infant Feeding Q&A -- The formula shortage has hit our communities hard. Learn why while getting tips and resources for infant feeding and info on where to find support for breastfeeding, re-lactation, and more!

NEW ARTICLE ALERT! A look at how a lack of policy support, systemic racism, and race-targeted marketing have created an outsized dependency on the formula for Black families.

Last weekend at @solvemit, Irth was awarded an $100,000 grant from The Patrick McGovern Foundation and I took to the very same stage in the @mitmedialab as my very first win ever— at an MIT Hackathon.
This award really validates the hardest part of our work— getting health systems to pay attention to our community-centered data. With new resources & capabilities, we continue to use your reviews to push for community accountability and we continue to ensure that our lived experience matters!!

For those who may not know, my journey to making the Irth app a reality began @mitmedialab and the @bfinnovation hackathon in 2018.
I came to speak about #breastfeeding but also with my son who, at 13, had created the first wireframes for Irth and we pitched, gathered a team & created the first prototype for Irth.
Wednesday, I came back to campus as part of @solvemit, where we won in the Anti-Racist Technology challenge. And my feeling of pride in all we have accomplished cannot be put into words.

Landmark Maternal Health Civil Rights Lawsuit was filed in LA today!
Charles Johnson, widower of Kira Johnson who died after a routine c-section at Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles, has filed an unprecedented maternal health Civil Rights lawsuit against the medical center.
The family is set to go to trial in a separate suit against Cedars-Sinai on May 11th and throughout the discovery process they uncovered heartbreaking information about how horribly Cedars-Sinai failed Kira. They hope this new lawsuit will send shockwaves across the country putting medical institutions on notice about the consequences of enabling cultures of racism that prey upon Black families.

We are leading a movement to drive transparency and community accountability; meaning that you are ultimately accountable to the communities you serve and if they haven't vouched for the quality of your care, then you haven't done your job.
Transparency has been a key driver (and a public demand), in so many other industries, but when it comes to the respectful and equitable care of Black and brown birthing people the medical industrial complex wants to "train and pray", hide data in private databases, and avoid public accountability.
Quite frankly, we say enough.
